Sangken festival

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Theravada Buddhist Temple at Vivek Vihar, Itanagar has been given facelift to celebrate Sangken, the most popular festival of follower of Theravada sect of Buddhist community.

As per the lunar calendar, the festival will begin from 10 am of April 14 with installation of Buddha images in makeshift temple for ceremonial bathing and reinstall to main temple on April16.

Sanken is an occasion to earn merit, share happiness and make merrymaking.

People of ages visit to temple to offer prayer, take five precept to refrain from taking intoxicating drinks, stealing, lying, killing and indulgence illicit sexual activities give alms to monks and take part in ceremonial bathing of Buddha images . The young and children sprinkle water on each other. In whole Sangken is an occasion to do wholesome work for wellbeing of all sentient being, peace and prosperity of all and earn merit. In Arunachal Pradesh, the Khamptis, Singphos and Tikhak Tangsa tribes celebrate Sangken with religious fever.

ANSU visits fire victims, provide relief

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Fire gutted three dwelling houses—two at Papu Nallah and one at G-Extension, Naharlagun—yesterday.

The fire at Papu Nallah broke out at 11 am reduced the houses of Tarh Guma and Tana Hewalee to ashes. The house gutted at G-Extenstion, Naharlagun belonged to one Tai Yaj, who is a widow. The fire broke out at 11 am.

An ANSU team today visited the families of the fire victim and distributed some immediate relief materials to them.

The students’ also urged the authority concerned to provide compensation/relief to the victims for their quick rehabilitation,

Webcasting done in 30 polling stations in 13-Itanagar

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: In order to make poll process transparent in 13-Itanagar (ST) Assembly constituency, the Returning Officer, Itanagar has successfully installed webcasting system in 30 Polling Stations within Itanagar segment. This system provided transparency in the Polling process and helped Police and Magistrate on the spot to effectively monitor the activities in the Polling Stations and thereby ensured free and fair elections. There were two monitoring / control rooms to monitor Poll process of webcasting, one was in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Capital Complex and another was in the Siddhartha Hall. Apart from sector Magistrates and Sector Police Teams on the poll day, there were Nakas/ Checkpoints to restrict movement of vehicle without permit and there were also standby Magistrates to monitor the poll process in case of any disturbances. Strong Room sealed at Anini

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The important election related documents like form 17A, 17C, marked copy of E/Roll, presiding officers dairy etc in respect of 41 Anini (ST) Assembly constituency was carried out today by the DEO cum RO Anini in presence of central observer Dr Praveen Kumar, IAS and representatives of both the contesting candidates.

After scrutiny of the above documents the strong room which has been set up at Sport Club Anini was sealed and secured. The Strong Room is being guarded by security forces and the CCTV has been installed in an around it. The scrutiny and sealing process could not be done earlier due to non-return of last polling party from 41/33- Chepe polling station which is at a distance of 7 days foot march from District Headquarter. Re-poll demanded

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Alleging irregularity, re-poll at Hawai polling station under 45-Hayuliang Assembly constituency has been demanded by the BJP candidate of the constituency.

In its complaint letter to Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC), the BJP candidate alleged that the INC candidate of the constituency along with five others have entered the polling station forcibly and cast vote beyond the polling hour at 5.17 pm.

“The INC candidate neither was waiting at the queue before the closing hours nor did he have a valid voter queue slip,” the letter said.

The polling agent of BJP had objected to the entry of the candidate as per the instructions given in Para-49, Sub Clause (49.1) of the guidelines provided in the “Handbook for Polling Agents” provided by ECI. But inspite of the objection of the polling agent, the presiding officer allowed him to cast his vote at 5:17 pm in blatant violation to the guidelines, the BJP candidate alleged.

Make Arunachal epicenter of peace and happiness: Sri Sri

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: Arunachal Pradesh should be epicenter of peace and happiness. The happiness should spread from Arunachal to rest of the country, said world famous spiritual leader and humanist Sri Sri Ravi Shankar while addressing his followers at the Art of Living campus located in Pagatara Village, Jollang Road (Jully Basti) here this evening.

Citing the neighbouring Bhutan which is following a new development philosophy of gross national happiness and said to be most happiest country in the world, Sri Sri said peace and happiness should spread over this country from this Himalayan state of Arunachal.

Drawing a similarity of culture and tradition of indigenous tribe all over the world, the spiritual leader said “we should preserve own tradition and culture for posterity.”

Our mind always hankers after for ideas which are always new. But our heart opts for the old (ideas), Sri Sri said and called upon the people not to forget their originality and preserve their own culture.

Ravi Shankar, who is also founder of the Art of Living, also exhorted his followers to be messenger of peace and harmony and to work as volunteer for preservation of flora and fauna of the state.

Sri Sri also put emphasis on systematic and planned approach for development of herbal medicinal resources in the state.

Hundreds of followers/disciples from various parts of the state and North Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Guwahati from neighbouring Assam thronged to the venue to participate in the “evening of Music, Meditation and Wisdom and to interact with Sri Sri.

Ravi Shankar envisages peaceful re-polling in violence-hit districts

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar today expressed his concern over the election related violence in some pockets of Arunachal Pradesh.

While interacting with this reporter, Sri Sri said, “Polling in Arunachal, particularly four districts have reportedly been affected by poll-related violence which should not be happened.” He expected peaceful repolling in those violence-hit districts.

When his attention was drawn to the media report that he was allegedly supporting BJP and Congress had complained to the Election Commission in this regard, Ravi Shankar clarified that he and his organization are never supporting any candidate or political party in the Lok Sabha elections. It is totally a misconception, he added.

It is worth mentioning here that during his visit to Itanagar on February 19, 2010, Ravi Shankar had pinned hope for a violence and stress-free society and said that his organization was working in that direction throughout the country.

AAPSU condemns atrocity on Arunachalee people

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has condemned the atrocities meted out to public and polling officials of Hasse Russa and Kamku Russa of Longding district by Assam police during April nine election.

Assam police personnel stopped polling in the two stations and drove all the public and polling staff away from the polling stations. They (Assam Police) also destroyed the infrastructure of the Govt. Primary school, Hasse Russa and threatened the polling officials that their all belongings will be destroyed if they do not listen to them.

AAPSU alleged that the Assam government has thus violated the instruction of Supreme Court intentionally. Earlier the Court has directed both the states to maintain status quo till further notice.

AAPSU urged the Arunachal Pradesh government to erect police outpost near Hasse Russa and Kamku Russa of Longding district to prevent untoward incident in future.

Hasse Russa and Kamku Russa are villages located in the border areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh about 50 km away from Longding district HQs.

Those areas comes under the territory of Arunachal Pradesh and people of this state are living there for the last many decades, claimed AAPSU.

Last time, the same incident occurred during Panchayat election where one person lost his life in police firing and the compensation is yet to be delivered by the Assam government, added AAPSU.

Disruption of polling process by the government of other state is not fair in the eyes of Election Commission of India, AAPSU said, and urged the state govt. to pursue the issue with appropriate authority to deliver justice to the people of the area and the state as a whole.

“It is a kind of murdering the democracy of nation and also betraying the sentiment of people living in the state,” added AAPSU.

Further, the Longding District Students’ Union (LDSU) also condemned the incident and appealed to the administration to take up the issue seriously with the competent authority failing which it threatened to adopt democratic means in the coming day for fulfillment of their demand.

Lok Adalats dispose off 76 cases

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The Lok Adalats held in various civil courts across the state today disposed off as many as 76 cases of various nature, including civil, criminal and MACT.

The number of cases disposed by various courts was- District and Sessions Court, Yupia (7), Additional District and Sessions Court, Pasighat (6), Bomdila (1), Basar (7), Chief Judicial magistrate court at Ziro (11), Yupia (1), Roing (34), Seppa (4), Aalo (5), Judicial magistrate court, Daporijo (6), APSLA informed Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLA). A total amount of Rs 28.70 lakh was awarded to the five MACT claimants from the insurance company by the District and Sessions Court, Yupia and Additional District and Sessions Court bench at Pasighat.

The bench of Lok Adalat at Yupia District and Sessions Court was chaired by Budi Habung while the other bench constituted for the CJM Court, Yupia was chaired by Yupia EAC M Taipodia.

BJP unit alleges vote capturing, demands re-poll

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The East Kameng district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint of total vote capturing and destruction of EVMs in several polling stations under Bameng and Chayangtajo assembly constituencies with East Kameng Deputy Commissioner cum DEO.

Demanding repolling in 25-Lorrah and all other polling stations where irregularities like vote capturing and EVM destruction are reported, the district BJP in its complaint letter alleged that atleast five EVMs were destroyed and total vote capturing by polling agents of INC candidates took place in atleast four polling stations of Bameng and Chayangtajo constituencies.

Besides the EVMs of 25-Lorrah polling stations where vote capturing was also alleged, the EVMs of Lapung, Jawa Camp, Rikung under Bameng Assembly constituency and Dafri polling station of Chayang Tajo Assembly constituency were destroyed by miscreants.

The party alleged that total vote capturing by INC polling agent took place in Yakali, Bengde and Veo Polling station of 9th Chayang Tajo Assembly Constituency. It also alleged that Lumdung polling station of 11-West Seppa constituency was destroyed by miscreants.

APCSOA condemns attack on member

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: The Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Officers’ Association (APCSOA) has strongly condemned the physical attack on its member by some miscreants in the office premises of the East Kameng Deputy Commissioner and demanded stringent action against the culprits involved in the incident.

The attack on the officer, who was on poll duty, that too in front of security personnel is very unfortunate which clearly shows the lack of safety and security of officers on poll duty, the APCSOA said in a release.

While demanding a proper inquiry into the whole episode, APCSOA also urged the authority to take action against those responsible for security lapse.

The APCSOA prayed to almighty for early recovery of the injured officer.

According to information, a group of about 25 persons waited in the DC office gate at around 9.45 am yesterday and mercilessly beaten the officer when he came out. It is alleged that the security personnel deployed at DC’s office did not make any attempt to save the officer and were mutely witnessing the whole episode just like a mute spectator. Instead, a lady and two officers valiantly tried to rescue him from the mob.

Later, the officer was evacuated to Guwahati for treatment by air by election authorities of the state.

Meanwhile, the APCSOA’s East Kameng district units condemned the attack in its strongest term and said the district unit of APCSOA was contemplating to boycott the on-going election process to register its protest against the attack.

APCSOA’s Kurung Kumey district also vehemently condemned the unwarranted attack on the senior APCS officer and demanded the authority to bring the culprits to book within 24 hours.

GPF condemns barbaric attack, demands probe

ITANAGAR, Apr 12: In a representation to the State Chief Election Commissioner, the Galo Peoples’ Federation (GPF) has registered its deep anguish and sentiment over the barbaric attempt on life by a group of people at Seppa on one of the senior Galo members Kego Jilen and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and their party leader and constitution of a Inquiry Committee on the incident.

Appealing to the Commission to take full responsibility for the safety and the security of the officers serving under it during the Election process, the GPF demanded for full fledged compensation to Jilen in terms of medical expenses and others. Reiterating manhandling incidents of senior Galo/ Adi officers in the infamous district during elections, the GPF complained that nothing concrete steps were taken up by the Commission in the previous cases till date.

While demanding strong action against the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police for failing to protect its own Officer during such sensitive hours and also for failing to arrest a single attacker of Kego Jilen until now, the GPF also demanded the Commission to out- rightly reject the candidature of the party leader to which the attackers were belong to.
